Course Overview
This class will guide new and experienced QiGong & Tai-Chi students through an easy to learn sequence of movements that are performed while relaxed, calm, balanced, and centered. This form features Earth energy gathering movements and Heaven energy gathering movements practiced to all 4 cardinal directions. It is wonderful for relieving tension, calming the mind, and fostering inner peace.

Tai Chi involves a series of movements performed in a slow, focused manner accompanied by deep breathing.  Each posture flows to the next keeping the body in constant motion. It is appropriate for all ages and fitness levels and requires no special equipment.

According to a Harvard Health Publications report, Tai-Chi addresses the key components of fitness - muscle strength, flexibility and balance and to a lesser degree, aerobic conditioning even though it is slow, gentle and doesn't leave you breathless.

In addition research has shown Tai-Chi decreases stress and anxiety, increases energy, stamina, bone strength, muscle strength and muscle definition. And when combined with standard treatment, tai chi appears to be helpful for other medical conditions such as arthritis, heart disease, hypertension, Parkinson's disease and sleep problems.

About Doug DeBenedictis
Doug is deeply interested in martial arts and has been practicing for over 25 years beginning with external kung-fu systems and eventually transitioning toward the internal healing arts of Tai-Chi, Baguazhang, and Hsing-I. Doug has found these arts to be rich in depth and character and is impressed with their ability to heal and strengthen the body, mind and spirit.

Doug has taught students in various settings, and desires to share his art with groups where people can learn to be relaxed, calm, centered and balanced. It is this sense of calm that develops a source of true inner strength.

When Doug is not working, mowing the lawn, fixing things, or practicing internal arts, he enjoys riding his mountain bike, hiking in the mountains, making and playing Native American flutes, and enjoying the outdoors as much as possible with his family.
